CINCINNATI (May 23, 2024) – To ensure children in Grant County, Kentucky, are ready for kindergarten, United Way of Greater Cincinnati’s Success By 6® and the Council for a Brighter Future are teaming up to make early childhood education a priority.

Research shows that 90% of brain growth occurs before the age of 5. That makes the years before kindergarten a crucial time for education.

“Helping families understand the importance of birth [through] 5 education not only sets children on a course for kindergarten success but lifelong success,” said Danielle Haley, Public Information Officer and Community Education Director for Grant County Schools, and Chair of the Council for a Brighter Future. “We are very grateful to partner with United Way to ensure that these important services continue for the families in Grant County."

This summer, Grant County families will receive a book of early childhood education resources in the mail. The book includes information on how to prepare kids for preschool and kindergarten.

In addition, a free Play & Learn event for children ages 0-5 featuring early learning resources and family-friendly games will be open to the public from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, June 1, at Mullins Field in Williamstown.

“In rural counties, transportation can be a barrier for families,” said Jennifer Meininger, Success By 6® Program Manager. “That’s why sending out a book of resources is crucial; even if a family is unable to make it to the Play & Learn event, we’re able to reach every home in Grant County.”

Since 2003, Success By 6® has invested more than $125 million in early childhood education and care. Partnering with the Council for a Brighter Future puts more children on a path to success.
