DEARBORN CO., Ind. (June 13, 2022) — What services do residents need most? To address that question in Dearborn County, the Mobile Outreach Project is visiting people where they are in the community.
“The goal is to understand what services are needed and then bring partner agencies together,” said Karen Snyder, director of United Way of Greater Cincinnati’s Southeast Indiana office.
Amy Rose of the Dearborn County Health Department started the Mobile Outreach Project. Snyder, who is working with Rose as she travels around the county, will take a lead role in connecting people to needed services.
“During the pandemic, everyone subconsciously created new habits. And one of them was don’t go out,” Rose said. “This is a way to help with that.”
The Mobile Outreach Project operates out of a former bookmobile that was donated to the health department and rehabbed. The team includes a tobacco treatment specialist, nurses and others. They help people register for programs, connect them to community resources, assist with Medicare/Medicaid navigation and more. More than a dozen agencies are participating in the project.
