Lewis incorporated community feedback into the design, which uses bold colors and depictions of children to illustrate a vision for “A Brighter Tomorrow.”
“The mural reflects the pride, creativity and vision that already exist in the neighborhood,” said Moira Weir, President and CEO of United Way of Greater Cincinnati. “We look forward to deepening our partnerships in Villages at Roll Hill, working alongside neighbors, listening to their priorities and investing in ideas that create opportunities for families.”
“The children of today are the leaders of a brighter tomorrow, and this mural beautifully captures that promise,” said Lisa Hyde-Miller, Resident Support Manager at Villages at Roll Hill. “It reflects the hopes, dreams and potential of our young people. When a community invests in its children and works together to create opportunities for them to thrive, the future is full of possibilities.”
Additional Information
This project is among the initial investments United Way is making in three Greater Cincinnati communities as part of a larger collaborative initiative. Earlier this year, United Way formally joined the national StriveTogether network, a proven nationwide movement focused on improving educational outcomes. United Way is leading the work alongside leaders and partners from the business, nonprofit and community sectors.
While continuing to support important work throughout the region, United Way is partnering with specific neighborhoods — Villages at Roll Hill, East Westwood and Lincoln Heights — to enhance existing efforts and encourage new strategies that create positive conditions for children and families to thrive. As we build relationships and create sustainable, community-informed solutions, the initiative will expand to additional neighborhoods.
United Way has already supported the creation of new grade-appropriate libraries at Roll Hill School and Ethel M. Taylor Junior High School.
