Nutritious food is a necessity, ensuring that healthy neighbors can work, learn, play and engage in our communities. The disruption of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits directly impacts thousands of families across Greater Cincinnati.
Across our nine-county region, more than 140,000 households receive SNAP benefits — nearly $25 million in monthly support that helps families put food on the table. When these benefits are disrupted, even if for a short period, the ripple effects are immediate: families face impossible choices, local food pantries see surges in demand and the entire community feels the strain.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), 1 in 7 U.S. households are facing low to very low food security . In Kentucky, the number of households facing food insecurity is higher than the national average, and in Indiana and Ohio it is nearly equal to the national average.
While United Way of Greater Cincinnati remains deeply committed to taking action and building long-term solutions, we need your support to help advocate . Policy changes and implementation are key to sustaining food security across our country and here in our community.
Will you take a moment to tell your elected officials SNAP is important to you and your neighbors? It only takes a few seconds.
Thank you for lending your voice so that all members of our community have a fair opportunity to thrive.
