At a time when tremendous pain permeates throughout our country, caused by the senseless deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and others before, the United Way of Greater Cincinnati reaffirms its commitment and support to eliminating inequity and injustice in our region.
We join in this collective grief and relentless resolve to dismantle systems of racism that have brought us to this heart-breaking moment in history.
The African American community again is shouldering a heaviness they should not carry alone. We all have different lived experiences, but we all are feeling the pain. We stand in solidarity with our diverse communities.
Today, I joined a call with other United Way leaders around the country to discuss how we help our communities respond during this time of sadness, rage and despair. Throughout the weekend, and even today, I communicated with city and community leaders ensuring your United Way stands ready to help when called. This is everyone’s battle. At times, we will follow the lead of partner organizations; other times, we will lead. We will listen and respond in a way that honors our commitment to creating a community where all people are healthy, educated, financially stable and treated with integrity and respect.
For more than 100 years, UWGC has worked hand-in-hand with members of our community to secure health, education and financial stability for every person in Greater Cincinnati. I ensure you, we also are committed to ridding our community of inequities that lead to racial injustice, oppression and violence against people of color.
We also will work on ourselves, fostering an organizational culture that values and respects diversity and inclusion. As President and CEO of United Way of Greater Cincinnati, I’ve made this a personal mission.
We will live what we believe. United is the way. Live United.
