United Way of Greater Cincinnati partnered with 17 diverse community organizations for a reimagined Day of Action today, mobilizing volunteers throughout the community to write notes to local seniors experiencing social isolation due to the COVID-19 crisis.

“More than 20 percent of our community are adults aged 60 or older; that is almost half a million people who have been held back from engaging in everyday activities to help them stay connected to their friends, family and community,” said Moira Weir, United Way’s President and CEO. “We feel notes of encouragement would really be a lift. United is the way to help our seniors during this difficult time.”

Day of Action --- held annually in June on the longest day of the year – is an opportunity for individuals and organizations throughout the world to volunteer and make their corner of the world a better place. United Ways across the world develop volunteer events and opportunities for those who want to participate.

This year’s effort is focused on providing notes of encouragement to 15,000 local seniors, but given the state of the nation, Weir encouraged also sharing uplifting notes with family and friends.
