United Way Day of Action Provides Community a Unique Opportunity to Help Children Prepare for Quality Preschool

Quality preschool is the best way to help children get off to a good start and succeed in school and in life. As summer officially kicks off on June 21, United Way of Greater Cincinnati and Cincinnati Preschool Promise are partnering to ensure all eligible Cincinnati children and families are registered to receive tuition assistance to attend quality preschool this fall.

United Way of Greater Cincinnati will hold its annual Day of Action event on Wednesday, June 21, to “Stuff the Streetcar” for Cincinnati Preschool Promise.

From 11:00 am to 3:00 pm on June 21, United Way will be chartering a Cincinnati Bell Connector and collecting new school supplies for children and items for preschool providers and their classrooms. Volunteers will then gather at Rhinegeist Brewery from 4:30 to 7:00 pm to assemble donated items into preschool kits for distribution to local families and preschool providers. The collected items will be used by Cincinnati Preschool Promise in their outreach efforts to sign up as many eligible families with tuition assistance for quality preschool this fall.

“Early childhood education is United Way of Greater Cincinnati’s top priority, and we are very excited to tie this year’s Day of Action event to supporting children and families enrolling in the Cincinnati Preschool Promise,” said Kathy Buckley, Volunteer Connection Director at United Way of Greater Cincinnati. “This is a wonderful opportunity for our entire community to come together to change the future for our children.”

Items can be delivered to United Way of Greater Cincinnati in advance, or dropped off at select Cincinnati Bell Connector stops from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm on the day of the event. United Way is seeking donations and volunteers on the Cincinnati Bell Connector route, and for the evening event at Rhinegeist. “Cincinnati Bell is proud to support the United Way Day of Action to help Cincinnati Preschool Promise and Cincinnati Public Schools,” said Shayne Beckett, manager of Community Support for Cincinnati Bell. “Early education is extremely important and programs like this will have a tremendous impact on quality preschools in Cincinnati.”

In addition, Humana has agreed to donate 80 full preschool kits, valued at approximately $25 each. United Way has a goal of collecting 1,000 educational kits for children and 600 kits for preschool providers.

“A need has been identified in our community and we are inspired by United Way’s Day of Action,” said Brittany Anderson, Frontline Leader, Humana Pharmacy. “As we look forward to another successful United Way campaign this year, we are eager to kick it off with this event!”
