Resolve to Volunteer More in 2017

It’s a new year, which for some folks means resolving to dust off that gym membership and search for new, healthy recipes to improve your waistline and well-being. There's time for one more resolution as you set personal goals for the year. Why not let United Way Volunteer Connection help you out!? You'll be starting off on the right foot by helping improve people's lives.

In 2017, we’re inviting community members to join us in fighting for education, health and financial stability for every person in our community. One of the simplest, most rewarding and impactful ways you can help? By volunteering.

We could go on all day about why you should volunteer, but here are five simple reasons to give it a try:

  1. Develop new skills

  2. Help address a cause that you're passionate about

  3. Meet new people

  4. Connect with your community

  5. Expand your horizons

Are you ready to add “improve my community” to your 2017 resolutions!? You can do so through one of our many on-going, short-term or one-time local volunteer opportunities.

One-time commitment

january is national mentoring month!

Take the pledge to become a reader, tutor or mentor and directly influence a child’s educational path in a positive way. We know that children who are prepared for kindergarten are more likely to achieve a third-grade reading level, and go on to graduate high school. And teens who finish high school are more likely to find employment. Sign up today; you won’t regret it!

Be a leader. Be BOLD

Would you like to grow your skills to the next leadership level to help lead a nonprofit organization? United Way’s BOLD (Board Orientation & Leadership Development) trains individuals to become effective board members. The class provides:

  • Visibility of community issues

  • First-hand examples of the board experience from local volunteers

  • An expanded network with other business professionals, community leaders and nonprofit leadership

BOLD is an excellent professional development opportunity that helps you learn how you can have an even greater impact in our community. The spring class begins April 13. Apply here!
