In late winter of 2020, the burgeoning coronavirus crisis weighed heavily on Jennifer Steele. The CEO of Meals on Wheels Southwest OH & Northern KY pondered difficult questions: What if the agency had to shut down its commercial kitchen where it prepares meals?
With the COVID-19 pandemic causing ongoing financial challenges for our community, the urgency for basic-need items continues to grow.
United Way of Greater Cincinnati was able to bring together many different resources in Clermont County to activate mobile pantries at four different schools each week for four months.
We know a wave of evictions is happening now, with more to come. Millions lost jobs – temporarily or permanently – and they need help paying rent to avoid homelessness.
Whether it be the COVID-19 Regional Response Fund we activated with Greater Cincinnati Foundation, the partnerships we developed with grassroots groups and faith-based organizations to distribute more than 1 million masks and sanitizer, or our direct relief work getting $160,000 in gift cards to nearly 4,000 local residents, we made a difference.
We cannot address equity or COVID-19 without addressing quality education, basic needs, financial stability and health, and vice versa. These historical community problems are interwoven with these two pandemics. Count on us to remain fully committed to our hallmark impact areas.
