Two pandemics—COVID-19 and historical inequity—emerged in Greater Cincinnati in 2020 and both are the subjects of a unique attempt by United Way of Greater Cincinnati to show the power of the organization’s work and how donor dollars make a difference.

United Way is offering virtual bus tours so members of the community can see first-hand—without leaving their seat—the impact of United Way investments in Greater Cincinnati.

“COVID-19 amplified historical inequities across our region,” said Moira Weir, president and CEO of United Way of Greater Cincinnati. “Join us to learn what tangible and innovative actions we are taking to address our community’s current needs, while changing systems that have traditionally held back our neighbors.”

The tour includes a behind-the-scenes look at one community partner, High Achievers Aim High, and a closer look at Black Empowerment Works, an equity-focused grant program addressing poverty, United Way recently invested more than $600,000 in 29 grassroots-generated, Black-led ideas, programs and projects.

Tour attendees will visit area in Cincinnati, Hamilton County and Clermont County. The interactive Virtual Bus Tours visit organizations partnering with United Way to provide a strong nonprofit system of care for our region’s families. Participants experience how services are provided, hear from non-profit partners and learn more about the community solutions United Way leads.

“United Way brings together a multitude of resources to attack complex problems from many different angles – programming, policy, advocacy and more,” Weir said. “In our search to do something different in a COVID-19 world, we created these entertaining and informative bus tours so donors can easily see their dollars in action.”
