UWGC NORTHERN KENTUCKY AREA CENTER UPDATES 02/02/21

April 23, 2021

N KY AREA CENTER PUSHES FOR VACCINATIONS FOR CHILD CARE WORKERS

The Northern Kentucky Area Center recently joined forces with other United Ways in Kentucky and additional agencies in asking Gov. Andy Beshear and state officials to include child care workers in Phase 1B of Kentucky’s COVID-19 vaccination plan. Phase 1B allows access to vaccinations to first responders, anyone age 70 or older, and K-12 school personnel. Everyone in those groups is now eligible to receive the vaccine.

“Prioritizing the availability of COVID-19 vaccinations for the early childhood workforce is critical to stabilizing staffing for these essential programs, reducing community spread and protecting the thousands of young children and families who depend on early childhood programs and service,” said Amanda Greenwell, director of United Way’s Northern Kentucky Area Center.

RACIAL EQUITY IS FOCUS OF NKY NON-PROFITS FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE

United Way’s Northern Kentucky Area Center and a dozen other Northern Kentucky nonprofit organizations formed NKY Non-Profits for Social Justice in June 2020. Its mission: stand together against racism and denounce any acts that dehumanize people. According to a joint statement issued by its members, “We are committed to using our collective resources to create a platform to begin community conversations to help Northern Kentuckians process race and inequity, and provide a safe space for tough conversations that will lead to real change within our communities.” To learn more about NKY Non-Profits for Social Justice or to join the movement, contact Catrena Bowman-Thomas, executive director of Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission, at cbowman-thomas@nkcac.org.
