CLERMONT COUNTY EARLY CHILDHOOD COLLABORATIVE LAUNCHES PROJECTS

Family Learning Bag activities

United Way of Greater Cincinnati’s Success By 6 has partnered with the Clermont County Early Childhood Coordinating Committee to form the Clermont County Early Childhood Collaborative. The collaborative, with more than 50 members ranging from school partners to child care professionals, has created these community-focused, early-learning projects:

  • Community Play Date Bags. The bags include activities typically structured around a holiday theme and include an online link for families to explore creativity together virtually. We hope the bags help build community connections for all families.
  • Family Learning Bags. The bags, developed in partnership with preschools, are designed to engage preschool families by providing resources, as well as fun and healthy activities parents can do at home with their children. The goal is to help children develop the skills needed for kindergarten, with a focus on physical, intellectual, language, emotional and social development. Included in the bags are Messages of Hope, development-specific activities and mindfulness techniques for both adults and children.

ASSISTANCE CONTINUES FOR HOMELESS PEOPLE

The Eastern Area office continues to support people who are homeless by providing donated supplies to Clermont County Community Services. Donors can obtain a list of homeless shelter needs by contacting Marcie Langendorfer, (513) 536-3000 or marcie.langendorfer@uwgc.org.

BROWN COUNTY PROJECT FOCUSES ON CHILDHOOD TRAUMA PREVENTION AND EARLY LITERACY

Messages of Hope

United Way of Greater Cincinnati’s Success By 6 is at the forefront of a collaborative effort in Brown County aimed at preventing and reducing childhood trauma while promoting early childhood literacy.

Brown County received funding for the trauma-prevention project through the joint efforts of Success By 6 and Joining Forces for Children, an organization spearheaded by the Mayerson Center for Safe and Healthy Children at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Other organizations collaborating on the project include the Brown County Educational Service Center, the Brown County Public Library and Brown County Job and Family Services.

Joining Forces for Children created Messages of Hope, which are tip sheets that highlight everyday actions parents can take to build resilience in children. Success By 6 then took the project a step further by pairing the tip sheets with early childhood books — selected by Brown County librarians — that promote early literacy and reinforce the tip sheets’ messages.

Success By 6® provided the funding to purchase the books. Children in designated Head Start classes receive a tip sheet and book to take home and read with their families. The messaging in tip sheets and books is reinforced by story time videos created by Brown County librarians and streamed into Head Start classrooms. Parents are provided a link to the videos.
