Dear United Way friends,

Many local companies make volunteering part of their culture. We at United Way are grateful to them -- and all volunteers throughout our community. Our work is not possible without the power of volunteerism.

We annually celebrate some of those companies that empower employees to volunteer for the causes that matter most to them. They’re Corporate Heroes.

“U.S. Bank values volunteering because it is part of who we are,” says Kevin Malvey, a senior vice president at U.S. Bank. “In fact, each year, employees are given 16 hours of volunteer time off to give back to their communities.”

That kind of commitment earned U.S. Bank our Corporate Hero award for companies with more than 750 employees. Our other winners: Ingage Partners (10 to 99 employees), Michelman (100 to 249) employees and EY (250 to 749 employees).

All four are repeat winners from last year. Companies sign up for the Corporate Heroes competition and then track employee volunteer time. Points are earned per each hour volunteered:

  • Five points for each hour volunteered with United Way
  • Two points for each hour volunteered with a United Way agency partner
  • One point for each non-United Way affiliated volunteer hour

This is the third straight win for Ingage Partners. The company, with just 94 employees, turned in 3,785 volunteer honors. That is an average of 40 hours per employee!

EY, in the largest category, has won all seven years of the award’s existence.

“EY’s purpose is to build a better working world and United Way and the programs around United Way really give us a chance to enable our people to volunteer and make a difference in their community, which is what they want to do,” said Jeremy Vaughan, managing partner of EY’s Cincinnati Office.

I am grateful to live in such a giving community, anchored by businesses that encourage their employees to make their corner of the world a better place.

Sincerely,

Moira Weir
