Dear United Way friends,
We will soon take applications for our third round of Black Empowerment Grants!
Black Empowerment Works grants promote Black self-determination, social mobility and economic prosperity. United Way is once again working with community members to fund Black changemakers doing community-centric work. United Way previously invested $1.6 million in Black-led work in 2020 and 2021, engaging 53 community members to invest in 58 Black-led ideas. We are advancing the original vision of our Champions of Change class of 2019-2020. Read what members had to say here!
This is a perfect complement to our recently announced Call for Systems Change Partners that focused our work on addressing root causes and changing systems so all will prosper. We seek to change the philanthropic ecosystem for Black-led ideas. Traditionally, in Greater Cincinnati and nationally, there has been philanthropic underinvestment in Black-led ideas and organizations. We are not only investing in great work, we are investing in people who live in their communities and know what is best for their communities.
Grants will range from $2,500 to $25,000. Here's how you can help:
Together, we can catalyze our community to invest more intentionally in the Black community and create more opportunities in under-resourced communities throughout Greater Cincinnati region.
Please join us!
Sincerely,
Moira Weir
