Global Youth Service Day

gysdheader.pngGlobal Youth Service Day (GYSD) is a yearly initiative promoted by Youth Service America that highlights and celebrates the contributions of youth to their communities through volunteer service. During GYSD, youth ages 5-25 around the world organize community service projects to address local needs.

This year, The Greater Cincinnati Global Youth Service Day will consist of a week of service projects taking place from Saturday, April 17 - Sunday, April 25 where youth will have the opportunity to come together and serve in order to improve our community. United Way of Greater Cincinnati is partnering with Children, Inc. to engage local youth in this initiative.

Global Youth Service Day Service Symposium

Do you want to be at the heart of youth service, be recognized for outstanding work and have the opportunity to share and collect ideas from hundreds of other youth? Then plan to attend a Service Symposium for youth, parents and educators Saturday, April 17 at Duke Energy Center.

Build a Healthy Space
Help cancer patients live a more comfortable life by doing a little spring cleaning. The time spent cleaning the grounds means so much to the cancer patients and their families who look to us for support, education and hope.

Keep in Touch with Nature
The ground is slowly thawing but before flowers can spring up, the ground needs to be prepared. Help mulch, weed and compost in the Spring Garden Cleanup at Granny's Garden School.

Feed the Soul
Prepare and serve a meal for homeless individuals at Salvation Army's Sunday Feeding Program.

Spread Your Knowledge
Super Saturdays is a tutoring program to help 3rd - 6th graders who have not tested as proficient by state standards. Our goal is to help prepare the kids for the Ohio Achievement Test which takes place immediately after the Super Saturdays program.

Take Steps for Change
The MS (Multiple Sclerosis) Walk - will take place at three locations in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky; Liberty Jr. School, Dixie Heights High School, and Sawyer Point. Volunteers will help with a variety of tasks at the event and encourage the walkers.

Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of your American Cancer Society. Volunteers will help at the Xavier Univeristy or University of Cincinnati locations with registration, tents, entertainment and much needed support.

Improve a Home, Improve a Life
Lend your muscle and help low-income homeowners tackle their wish list projects. Volunteers will provide yard clean-ups and simple home repairs that go a long way in alleviating the load.

Lead the Way to a Greener Future

Through the Youth Environmental Stewardship Program at Gorman Heritage Farm, you will have the chance to learn about the environment and apply that knowledge with a hands-on environmental project in the community.
