This year, make a New Year's resolution you can keep
The holidays are right around the corner, and before you know it you'll be making plans to fit into those old jeans, manage your budget, and get around to that reading list.
This year, make a New Year's resolution that will not only make you feel good, but will give back to the community.
Check out 5 fun and easy ways to make 2010 a year of connection and inspiration.
- Learn more about the issues in your community
Where is the economy the strongest in our region? How does the health of your community compare to other areas? How are kids performing in local schools? Find answers to these important questions in United Way's State of the Community Report. - Develop a new skill
Build up your resume, meet new people and help your community at the same time. Volunteer with United Way's Earned Income Tax Credit Initiative and receive free IRS tax preparation training and certification. Volunteers do not need any previous tax experience and can serve days, nights or weekends at any of 30+ local tax sites. - Get in touch with your inner child
By reading books, playing games and just spending time with children, you can make their stay at a women's emergency shelter so much brighter. You’ll even help their mothers have a chance to get the support and help they need to get back on their feet when you volunteer as a Childcare Aid at Welcome House of Northern Kentucky. - Start your modeling career
Actually there's an easier way to becoming adored and admired... become a role model and provide encouragement, guidance, and help with schoolwork to a young person by mentoring with the Cincinnati Youth Collaborative. - Become a master in the kitchen
Practice your cooking skills by preparing and serving a meal to nearly 200 homeless individuals by volunteering with Salvation Army's Sunday Feeding Program.
